Cayetano Taps an Old Friend for New Campaign

Former Hawaii Gov. Ben Cayetano has a new spokesperson for his Honolulu mayoral campaign — Jackie Kido.

If that name sounds familiar that’s because Kido was Cayetano’s director of communications from 1998-2002 during his second term as governor.

Most recently, Kido served on the Hawaii State Ethics Commission, a position she recently gave up.

"There has never been a time when our City has had so much at stake," Kido said in a statement announcing her involvement with the Cayetano campaign. "I’ve worked with, and alongside, many public policy leaders over the years. Ben Cayetano is the most inspiring and honest I have known, and it’s a privilege to be working with him once again."

I wonder if that last part is directed toward the Pacific Resource Partnership, the group behind the negative ad campaign against Kido’s new boss.

Kido is also a former litigator with Cades Shutte, LLP, a law firm with offices in Honolulu and on the Big Island.
